FAQ Answers

How does OffHook work?
OffHook uses UDP broadcasting to track the state of other users. Your network (and your computer's firewall) need to permit UDP traffic on the desired port. (The default port is 62007.)

Why did you develop OffHook?
I work in a small office environment, and it was difficult to tell whether my office mates were on the phone or not. If they were quiet, it didn't mean anything...they could easily be listening in on a conference call. After a few episodes of waving at them and mouthing the words "are you on the phone?" I realized this was a good candidate for a software solution.

Of course, many phone systems permit users to see whether a certain phone line is active. OffHook won't be much use to users of such systems. (Probably.)

I bought OffHook, but I haven't received my registration code!
If you haven't received your registration code via email in 48 hours (allowing for weekends/holidays), then something is broken. Most likely, spam filters are intercepting the email. Fill out and submit this form, being sure to include your Kagi order registration code. I will try to send you the code using some other email addresses --- if all else fails (and you live in the U.S.), I'll mail it to you via U.S. mail. We may be able to meet via Instant Messaging (Skype or AIM). We will figure out something.

I bought 5 licenses, but want to upgrade to 15. How do I upgrade?
Buy a 15 copy license, and enter the new code in the OffHook registration window. Easy.

What Linux distributions does OffHook support?
Officially, we only support Ubuntu --- that's the only distro we have access to for development!

Will OffHook work in mixed OS environments?
Yes. The Linux, Windows, and OS X versions of OffHook happily coexist with each other on the same LAN.

Is there a demo I can try?
Until a registration code is entered, OffHook acts like a demo. Just download, install and test. It will only run for 10 minutes and will only show status for 4 other users.

On OS X and Linux, installation is drag-n-drop and the Windows version includes a typical installer.

Will OffHook interface with my telephone peripherals?
No. OffHook relies on the computer user to manually change their status from off-hook to on-hook and vice-versa.
